About us

1. Overview

The Center for the Law of the Sea and International Maritime Law (SIMLAW) was established according to Decision No. 551/QD-TCCB dated May 9, 2003, of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The Center has independent legal status with its own seal and bank account according to Decision No. 509/QD-TCCB dated August 23, 2004. Our personnel includes experts, collaborators, lecturers, and scientific researchers, who have a breadth of experience in the fields of maritime and maritime law, international law, etc.

2. Functions and missions

– Performing scientific research in the direction of combining basic and applied research;

– Providing legal support and consultation for domestic and foreign organizations and individuals;

– Fostering and improving the legal knowledge of domestic and international lecturers, researchers, organizations, and individuals through intensive and specialized training programs;

– Gathering, processing, exchanging and providing information related to the law of the Sea, international maritime law, and other relevant legal fields in accordance with the law;

– Cooperating with international partners to implement projects and cooperative programs in accordance with the law; cooperating with domestic and foreign partners in education, scientific research, and application.

– Performing other missions assigned by the Chancellor of the University of Law – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

– Creating opportunities for the Center’s staff to improve their qualifications and skills through participating in post-graduate courses provided by the University of Law – Vietnam National University, Hanoi or other training institutions.
