According to research, up to 8 million tons of plastic waste is discharged into the ocean each year. Microplastics have been discovered in various marine life and even in our blood via the consumption of plastic-infected food. It is expected that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea (!).
With the desire to call for more attention to the current state of ocean pollution due to the impact of waste and spreading the message of environmental protection, Law of the Sea and International Maritime Law Center (SIMLAW) with the companionship of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) organized the contest “LET’S SAVE THE SEA! – CALL FROM THE OCEAN” for all students in Hanoi city.
Please find below the details of the contest:
1. Content
Design Poster/Art/Video/Model with a presentation attached with the aim to deliver a positive message in line with the theme: join hands to reduce waste, protect the marine environment
2. Requirements
? Poster: Soft file (ratio 9:16 or 16:9) or Physical copy size A3 or A2.
? Environment art: unlimited materials, size A3 or A2.
? Video: 2-3 minutes, minimum quality 720p.
? Model: Use recycled materials.
? Furthermore, each submission needs to be accompanied by a written explanation of the ideas and messages the author want to convey.
4. Who can attend the contest?
Students in Hanoi City that care about the environment and want to spread the message of protecting the environment from the negative impacts of waste.
*Members of the Organizing Committee are not allowed to participate in the Contest.

6. Awards
Certificates and awards with a total value of up to 20,000,000 dong
Includes:
Awards from the Judge Panel:
- One (01) first prize: 2,000,000 dong + 01 Training course
- Two (02) second prizes: 1,000,000 dong each + 01 Training course
- Two (02) third prizes: 600,000 dong each + 01 Training course
- Two (02) forth prizes: 400,000 dong each
Prizes for most voted entries:
- Most-voted prize: 2,000,000 dong
- Second most-voted prize: 1,000,000 dong
- Third most-voted prize: 500,000 dong
✨The 3-day training course will be held in Hai Phong, sponsored by UNEP, is an opportunity for 5 contestants with the best entries to learn about the marine environment with international and domestic experts. All accommodation and travel expenses will be paid by the Organizing Committee.
✨In addition, many meaningful “green” gifts are waiting for the winners of the contest.

Excellent submissions will be selected for display at the Exhibition “Let’s save the sea! – Call from the Ocean” on October 27, 2023, House G3, University of Law, Hanoi National University, and posted on SIMLAW’s website.
